Booktok, Bookstagram, and Reddit have been buzzing around an image taken in a coffee shop on February 27th featuring Margot Robbie laughing at a table with a woman who appeared to be Sarah J Maas. Speculation regarding Robbie’s involvement in an adaptation of a Maas series ignited, as did doubts. Here’s everything we know from when the image hit the internet to now.

Tuesday, February 27th

Investor account West4thCapital posted a photo featuring Margot Robbie to X, sharing that the sighting happened that day at a local coffee shop. 

West4thCapital clearly isn’t embedded within the Maasverse, but shortly after the post hit X rumors started picking up speed that the woman Margot was laughing with appeared to be Sarah J Maas herself. Forums across Reddit (r/SarahJMaas); TikTok; and Instagram explode with excitement, conspiracy theories, and doubt.

Thursday, February 29th & Friday, March 1st

While reps for Margot Robbie, Sarah J Maas, and Lucky Chap entertainment, the production company founded by Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara and Sophia Kerr, have yet to confirm the sighting or release a statement, the confirmation the internet was waiting on baited breath for appeared to arrive from Instagram fan account @courtofmaas.

Saturday, March 2nd

Earlier today, March 2nd, at 8 am ET, courtofmaas admin Lou pinned an updated to the original post comments stating that Sarah J Maas herself had confirmed that the woman in the photo was her.

To add validity to the confirmation, Maas’ husband, Josh Wasserman (@therealpapamaas), liked the reel breaking the news. 

Saturday, March 2nd

Wasserman also followed courtofmaas, fueling excitement over the validity of the rumors.

After news broke February 2024 that the Hulu-produced adaptation of ACOTAR was taken out of active production — after fans had been waiting years for updates on the series after it entered development phase in 2021 — this could be the bright spot we in the Maasverse are looking for!
